Spinal Cord Monitoring

Spinal Cord Monitoring

As a service we pride ourselves on making the spinal surgery we carry out as safe as possible. Part of this is to protect the function of the spinal cord and nerves to avoid any paralysis. There is a team dedicated to this specific task.

This part of the web site is about them and what they do. This type of work is called Intra-Operative Monitoring (IOM).

The team is staffed by Clinical Physiologists who are specialists in assessing the effect of spinal surgery on the spinal cord. You can see our IOM team on the Spinal Cord Monitoring Team page.

We also look to what is happening in the rest of the United Kingdom and beyond. As a service we are linked to a grouping of professionals performing the same work by personal membership to the organisation British Society of Intraoperative Neurophyiology.BSIN
