Mothers’ Voices

The MSLC in partnership with the Pregnancy and Parents Centre held a Mothers’ Voices event on Thursday 6th June 2019.

This gave the opportunity to around 35 new mothers (and fathers) to talk about their experience of maternity services and to meet NHS Lothian maternity services staff to tell them what matters to them.

It will not come as a surprise that what mattered most to mothers was :

– to be treated with kindness and respect.

– to be given clear and honest information at the right time.

– to receive consistent care.

– to be fully involved in their care and supported in their choices. 

A number of themes emerged during the conversations (maternity care and birth, home birth, breastfeeding, neonatal unit) and the feedback and questions from parents are detailed in the report below.
