The unit at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh (RIE) is actively involved in research projects. These largely involve assessing sample information from the 1300 or so patients who attend the RIE clinic. The studies are based on appropriately designed samples from this grouping of patients.
A summary description of the completed studies together with the key conclusions is set out in the following pages in layman’s language; patient implications are identified; and citations to the academic papers are also provided in each case though these describe the studies and conclusions in more clinical terms.
