To assess the value of using one of the quality of life questionnaires (the Leicester Cough Questionnaire) in assessing the symptoms of bronchiectasis and to the effect of treatments.
This study looked at three measures of “value”: Reliability (repeated questionnaire responses over 6 month period whilst patients clinically stable); Validity (assessing a spectrum of severity of bronchiectasis); and Responsiveness (response to intravenous antibiotic therapy). The score varies from 3 (severe cough) to 21 (no cough) and a 1.3 unit change is thought to be clinically significant.
Key Conclusions: Very reliable; relates well to both mild and severe bronchiectasis; and responds well to treatments
Patient Implications: Ensure that quality of life questionnaires are completed on time as they are helpful in monitoring your condition.
