Heart Manual (Post MI & Revascularisation) Facilitator Training
Since 1992 more than 6,000 trainees have completed the Facilitator Training Course offered by the Heart Manual Department based at Astley Ainslie Hospital, Edinburgh. These facilitators have a crucial role in the delivery of our Heart Manual programmes.
We offer comprehensive training delivered by a health psychologist and specialist nurse over two days to fully equip registered healthcare professionals to be able to successfully facilitate the Heart Manual programmes, covering a wide range of physiological and psychological topics.
The training included subjects such as:
- Principles of the Heart Manual Programmes: Intervention and Evidence
- Psychosocial Issues: Anxiety, Depression, Denial and Cardiac Misconceptions
- Stress Management
- Coping Strategies
- Supporting Health Behaviour Change (Motivational Interviewing and Goal Setting)
- Cognitive Function
- Pathophysiology of Coronary Heart Disease
- Medical Management of Revascularisation Procedures (PCI and CABG)
- Benefits of Exercise and the HM Exercise Programme
- Facilitation Process
Training is also available for non-registered health, social and exercise professionals to support the use of the Heart Manual. Please contact our office for a broad outline of roles/skill mix in teams for facilitating the Heart Manual.
Attendees are awarded a certificate of attendance after successfully completing the course. This constitutes a licence from NHS Lothian permitting the holder to practise as a Heart Manual Facilitator with patients who have been prescribed the Manual by a qualified healthcare practitioner.
We also have update sessions for previously trained facilitators available to refresh their skills.
The Cancer Manual Facilitator Training
The training we offer to enable individuals to be able to effectively facilitate the Cancer Manual programme is currently available to registered healthcare professionals. Similar to the Heart Manual Post MI and Revascularisation facilitator training, we aim to fully equip registered healthcare professionals to be able to successfully facilitate the programme, covering a wide range of physiological and psychological topics relating to each condition.
