Research and Trials

Active Research Programme

Clinical research depends upon clinical services being well-organised as participating patients need to be managed according to high standards and strict protocols.

Clinical research can also enhance care by offering patients access to extra diagnosis, assessment and treatment opportunities. We are fortunate in having a well established and internationally renowned stroke research group.

Currently

  • our researchers are involved in several key randomised controlled treatment trials;
  • numerous observational studies based at the Scottish Brain Imaging Centre and using cutting edge imaging techniques are improving our understanding of stroke and its subtypes;
  • further projects are focusing on risk factors, genetics, post stroke depression and personality, visio spatial problems and drug adherence.

The Research & Development Subgroup is coordinated at the Centre for Clinical Brain Sciences, at the RIE, Edinburgh.

Remit

  • to encourage and oversee research and development opportunities proposed/ undertaken within the network
  • to ensure good links are maintained with universities
