A guide to health problems that should cause you to contact your doctor.

The First Potential Symptom of Breast Cancer

The First Potential Symptom

The first symptom of breast cancer most people notice is a lump or an area of thickened tissue in their breast. Most breast lumps (90%) are not cancer, but its always best to have them checked by your doctor.

Anything Out of the Ordinary

You should speak to your GP if you notice anything out of the ordinary to do with your breasts, including any of the following list below.

Other Potential Symptoms

Size and Shape

A change in the size or shape of one or both breasts.

Discharge

Discharge from either of your nipples (which may be streaked with blood).

Lumps or Swellings

A lump or swelling in either of your armpits.

Dimpling

Dimpling on the skin of your breasts.

Rashes

A rash on or around your nipple.

Change in Appearance of Your Nipples

A change in the appearance of your nipple, such as becoming sunken into your breast.

Also of Note

Breast Pain

Breast pain alone is not a symptom of breast cancer.

Breast Cancer and Men

Although rare, men can get breast cancer. The most common symptom of breast cancer in men is a lump in the chest area.
