Our department is a nurse led service and focuses on pregnancy concerns in the first trimester of pregnancy. The area is patient focussed where we aim to provide specialised, prompt, reassuring and supportive care to individuals experiencing complications in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.
What We Do
The EPU provides vital clinical and emotional support to individuals and couples who are experiencing miscarriage, ectopic or molar pregnancies in the following ways:
- Assessment and Diagnosis – provides urgent assessment for suspected miscarriage, ectopic , molar or other early pregnancy problems
- Imaging – offers ultrasound scans to confirm the location and viability of the pregnancy
- Support and Treatment – supports individuals through the emotional stress of complications and provides medical or surgical management options for pregnancy loss
Referral Process
Patients are referred to the service by their GP, NHS 24, the Emergency Department or hospital clinicians. Self referrals are also accepted. Referrals are triaged to ensure the service is appropriate for your clinical needs.
