NHS Lothian offers a wide range of specialist services for our Gynaecology patients, including planned and emergency care for inpatients and outpatients at a number of units across the region.

Gynaecology Clinics

Our hospital specialists provide treatment for patients with a wide range of gynaecological problems including:

  • Period Problems
  • Pelvic Pain
  • Menopause and HRT related problems
  • Fibroids
  • Endometriosis
  • Subfertility
  • Prolapse & bladder problems
  • Recurrent miscarriage
  • Vulval problems and skin conditions
  • Colposcopy (for patients with abnormal smear results)
  • Outpatient Hysteroscopy (looking inside the womb with a telescope)
  • Early Pregnancy Problems
  • Hormonal problems relating to Gynaecology
  • Sterilisation requests

Gynaecological Cancer Clinics

NHS Lothian runs a fast track service so that patients who may have a gynaecological cancer are seen and investigated urgently, ensuring that results come back quickly and the cancer problem can be confirmed or ruled out as soon as possible.

The patients who do have a cancer are then managed in clinics run by the Multi-disciplinary Gynaecological Oncology Team who organise the most appropriate treatment for each individual patient.

Chalmer’s Centre

Sexual Health, Family Planning, Genito-Urinary Medicine and some areas of Gynaecological care are provided through the Chalmer’s Centre and full details about the services provided here can be found on the NHS Lothian sexual health website. (link)
