If you wish to discuss a referral please call 0131 537 1116 and ask for the Duty Staff, alternatively email WGH.ClinicalGenetics@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk. Please note that this e-mail address is for healthcare professionals only and we are unable to respond to direct enquiries from patients.
We recommend that patients go to their GP in the first instance to discuss referral to Clinical Genetics.

Referrals are triaged by the Clinical Genetics team. Depending on the reason for referral and family history, a genetic assessment may be completed by letter, or by telephone contact or by appointment.

Please note: not all referrals will be offered an appointment with Clinical Genetics.

If an appointment is indicated, the patient will receive a “invitation to book” letter asking them to contact the Appointment Secretary to choose a suitable appointment date and time. Genetic Clinics are held in various locations (see below). Some of the more specialist clinics are only held in one location.

  • Borders General Hospital, Melrose
  • David Brock Building, Western General Hospital
  • Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion
  • Queen Margaret Hospital, Dunfermline
  • Roodlands Hospital, Haddington
  • Royal Hospital for Sick Children
  • Royal Infirmary of Hospital
  • Royal Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy
