Feeding when out and about
In Scotland breastfeeding and bottle feeding are both protected by the Breastfeeding etc (Scotland) Act 2005. This means you should be able to feed your child when required, in the most appropriate place for them and without fear of interruption or criticism. If a person deliberately stops you from feeding your child under the age of two in a public place in Scotland, they are committing a criminal offence.
Breastfeeding Friendly Scotland
We recognise that breastfeeding when out and about can be intimidating for some parents. In Lothian we have many places that parents might visit in the community such as libraries, restaurants and cafes which have signed up to the Breastfeeding Friendly Scotland award. These breastfeeding friendly venues are welcoming to all parents that feed their babies by providing a comfortable and relaxing space to do so.
If you would like your premises to be recognised as being breastfeeding friendly, please complete this form and return to breastfeedingfriendlyscotland@nhs.scot
