How long will you Wait?

  • Urgent referrals will be offered an appointment on the next working day where possible.
  • Routine referrals can expect to wait approximately two weeks.

Your first appointments? What to expect?

Within TWO visits you will be seen by the following staff members who will assess your needs and plan your care:

  • Doctor- who will give you a check up and be involved in your care whilst at OPRA.
  • Named Nurse- who will talk with you to assess your needs and will remain involved in your care throughout your attendance at OPRA.
  • Physiotherapist- who will assess your walking ability, balance and function. Issues regarding pain, physical activity and independence will also be discussed.
  • Occupational Therapist – who will ask you about your ability to perform everyday tasks such as personal care and meal preparation. You will also get the opportunity to discuss social and leisure activities and the things that matter to you.

Whilst attending OPRA you should expect that for some of the time you will be seated in the patient lounge between assessments. Please feel free to bring a book, magazine or tablet to help pass the time. All patients are offered the option of lunch and refreshments during their time on the unit.

How long will I be attending OPRA?

The number of attendances varies depending on your needs. We do not place time limits on our patients care. Your named nurse will inform you when your care is complete.

What resources are there to support my health condition?

We run a free no obligation group each day at OPRA to promote health and wellbeing. These range from relaxation, seated yoga, reminiscence, upper limb exercises and health improvement sessions. All our patients are welcomed and encouraged to participate in these, and if you find something you enjoy we will endeavour to help you find similar activities within your local community.

In the meantime, you may find useful information in the Resources to Support your Condition section.
