Bronchiectasis NHS Lothian | Our Services

Tom’s Story (Moderate)

How was I diagnosed?

I was diagnosed in 2018, while in my early 50’s, with moderate bronchiectasis. I had pneumonia in 2003 and there may be a link.

How do I feel about my treatment?

After the initial shock of the diagnosis, I was pleased to find that daily airway clearance exercises (together with use of an Aerobika device) can be very effective in keeping the condition under control, and that with this a fairly normal life is possible.

How does it affect my day to day living?

After making some adjustments to my lifestyle including dietary and avoiding the cold, I now have only very occasional exacerbations

Breathtakers Group Impact

I have found joining Breathtakers to be very beneficial, due to the regular talks and interaction with respiratory health specialists, and it is an opportunity to meet others with a similar diagnosis and share knowledge and support on how to manage the condition and enjoy life as much as possible.
