Telephone Advice Line

Due to the ongoing pressures created by the pandemic, the Clinical Nurse Specialists have been redeployed to assist with the response to COVID-19. Please refer to the frequently asked questions and COVID-19 section, where we have tried to answer most queries, before contacting the Advice Line.

Advice can be given on most things relating to your condition or treatment.  Your query will be referred to another member of the team if needed.

Please note that we can only answer calls from patients who have a Rheumatology Consultant in our unit.

  • Your query will be recorded on an answering machine and answered by a Rheumatology Nurse Practitioner as soon as possible
  • This line is not for emergencies.

When to call the Advice Line

  • If you are experiencing a flare which has not responded to your usual self-help treatments (see managing a flare section)
  • If you are experiencing any medication related side-effects,
  • If you are concerned about your blood results
  • If you require advice on any aspect of your rheumatology medications

  • You need to change your appointment time with the Nurse Practitioner. Please phone our secretaries on 0131 537 3677 for this
  • You need to change your appointment with your Rheumatologist.  Instead please phone the appointments phone number on 01506 522 180.
