What to expect from your first session

If you have received a letter offering you a triage appointment at DCN Neuropsychology please see the DCN Neuropsychology triage clinic webpage.

A typical first session lasts for 50 minutes and will be a chance for you to discuss how your neurological condiiton is affecting your well-being.

The clinician will explore a range of topics with you, these may include:

Your current experience

  • Thinking and cognition
  • Mood
  • Behaviour
  • Concerns
  • Goals

Your past experience

  • Education
  • Occupation
  • Hobbies
  • Family and Friends
  • Other medical conditions

You might be sent some questionnaires to bring to your first appointment.

This session helps the clinician to understand your difficulties and gives you the opportunity to find out how the service might support you. If you have any questions about your first appointment, you can contact us by phone beforehand. See the who are we pages for contact details.

Sometimes your first session may be different

If you are coming in for a cognitive assessment before an operation or are travelling a significant distance, the first appointment may be made longer and may involve starting assessments. If this is the case, we will contact you beforehand.

More information about other people’s experiences can be found in the patient stories and feedback sections of this website.
