- Try leading with your stronger leg first when going upstairs, and leading with your weaker leg first when coming downstairs
- Try placing both feet on same step before attempting the next step to help conserve your energy and your balance
- You may find going up/down sideways is easier for you if you only have one stair banister, as this enables both hands to make use of the stair banister
- Could you go up and downstairs on your bottom?
- Consider asking a family member to supervise you on the stairs (they should be behind you as you climb the stairs, and in front of you as you come down)
- Consider remaining on the floor where your toilet is for more of the day. If your only toilet is downstairs could a bed be moved downstairs? If you have access to a commode, could this be relocated to reduce the number of times you require to use the stairs?
