Speech and Language Therapy Care in Head and Neck Cancer

Speech and language therapists (SLTs) play a vital role as members of the multidisciplinary head and neck cancer team. SLTs evaluate baseline swallowing and communication function prior to surgical and oncological treatment. SLTs provide education to patients and their families on expected side effects and will continue to manage communication, voice and swallowing (dysphagia) difficulties through treatment and recovery.

NHS Lothian SLT Head and Neck Cancer services are provided at the Western General Hospital and St. John’s Hospital.
