Lothians and Edinburgh Abstinence Programme (LEAP) NHS Lothian | Our Services

Family Programme

Substance dependency impacts not only the individual but also their entire family.

Families often adapt to cope with their loved one’s condition, which can lead to significant challenges. It’s crucial to recognize and address the needs of all family members and close relationships, as involving them early in the recovery process leads to better outcomes for everyone.

LEAP offers comprehensive support and information for families from the first referral. During the patient’s assessment, family members are invited for an informal interview with a family support therapist to evaluate their support needs.

Families can then participate in our educational and support groups on Wednesday and Thursday evenings and are directed to community mutual-aid groups for ongoing support. We may also refer family members to other agencies for additional counselling and support as needed.

Important Note – The LEAP Family Programme is also open to family members of non LEAP patients.
