Health and Care Professions Research

NHS Lothian has adopted a strategic partnership approach to developing research capacity and capability among nurses, midwives, allied health professionals, pharmacy professions, psychologists and healthcare scientists (NMAHPPS).

Working in partnership with six universities we have developed an NMAHPPS Research Strategy 2022 – 2025 that sets out our aims, principles of working together and our strategic ambitions.

These pages provide details of various initiatives we have established to bring this strategy alive.

Please read our NHS Lothian NMAHP & Pharmacy Research Annual Review 2023-2024.

NHS Lothian values supporting nurses, midwives, allied health professionals, pharmacists, psychologists and healthcare scientists to access research training and follow a clinical academic career pathway and is something we are proud of. This is illustrated by our Board employing research leads with a remit to develop capacity and capability in this field in the majority of these professions.
