Reflective Practice & Portfolio of Learning

Reflective practice is a key part of any role within the care sector, as it is through reflective practice that we can develop our skills and knowledge whilst applying to practice.
Reflective Practice is one form of Continuous Professional Learning (CPL) which is a requirement of registration with the SSSC and adherence with the SSSC Code of Practice.

Recording your reflections on learning and your practice can demonstrate CPL, but in addition they can also be used as:

  • Evidence for qualifications including SVQ and PDA
  • Evidence for SSSC Open Badges
  • A discussion tool for supervision
  • Part of your organisation’s Personal Development Planning or Appraisal process.
  • An informative piece of evaluation of training where classroom learning can be demonstrated and applied to practice.

When you attend any Lothian Healthcare Academy training you will be provided with:

  • Reflective Practice template – a downloadable version is provided below
  • Certificate of attendance with learning outcomes identified .
  • Any additional documentation/workbooks (depending on course)

These documents can be used to build a portfolio of learning.

We recommend that you reflect on your learning at least 3 months after training, but also at a point where your learning is put into practice.

Once you have completed this document keep it safe along with any certificate from the learning activity, this will help you build a portfolio of learning and demonstrate your own professional development.
Alternative formats can be requested through LCA mailbox: loth.careacademy@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk
