Supporting Carers NHS Lothian | Our Services

Carers of East Lothian

Carers of East Lothian (CoEL) supports adults in a caring situation to access information and services to help them in their caring role, to enhance their own health and wellbeing, and to strengthen their collective voice to improve services.

CoEL offers support to unpaid carers so that they can continue to care for others for as long as they wish to do so. They support unpaid carers who live in East Lothian or who care for someone living in East Lothian.

CoEL’s services include:

  • Information and advice tailored to the individual’s needs and caring situation
  • Practical and emotional support, provided on a one-to-one or group basis
  • Income maximisation, including assistance with benefit applications and welfare rights
  • Access to short breaks from caring and grants for carers
  • Training and events for carers
  • Peer group support for carers
  • Counselling service for carers
  • Support to participate in the planning and development of services.

You can contact CoEL directly by telephone, by email or via the referral form on the website to ask for support for yourself or for someone else. If you are contacting CoEL on behalf of another person, please seek their permission first before you share their personal contact details.

CoEL does not offer direct support to young carers who are under the age of 18. East Lothian Young Carers and the Bridges Project provide this support to young carers living in East Lothian instead.
