East Lothian

Carers of East Lothian (CoEL) supports adults in a caring situation to access information and services to help them in their caring role, to enhance their own health and wellbeing, and to strengthen their collective voice to improve services.

Carers of East Lothian (CoEL) offers support to unpaid carers so that they can continue to care for others for as long as they wish to do so. They support unpaid carers who live in East Lothian or who care for someone living in East Lothian.

CoEL’s services include:

  • Information and advice tailored to the individual’s needs and caring situation
  • Practical and emotional support, provided on a one-to-one or group basis
  • Income maximisation, including assistance with benefit applications and welfare rights
  • Access to short breaks from caring and grants
  • Training and events
  • Peer group support
  • Counselling service
  • Support to participate in the planning and development of services.

You can contact CoEL directly by telephone, by email or via the referral form on the website to ask for support for yourself or for someone else. If you are contacting CoEL on behalf of another person, please seek their permission first before you share their personal contact details.

The Carers Centre is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm. 

Appointments are advisable but not always necessary.

Carer support from East Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership

Carers of East Lothian can offer guidance if you need to make contact with the East Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership (ELHSCP) regarding your own support or support for the person you are caring for.

Young Carers

Carers in East Lothian who are under the age of 18 can get advice, information and support from the East Lothian Council Young Carers Service.

East Lothian Council Young Carers Service also offers support in schools to:

  • Provide information, advice and support
  • Support young yarers to prepare their Young Carers Statement
  • Offer opportunities for breaks from caring
  • Meet young carers to get their views
  • Raise awareness of young carers’ rights
