Clinical Services

Our therapeutic approach

Our approach is to work openly and collaboratively to develop a joint understanding of the problems you face.

We base our work on up-to-date research and treatment methods in the field of psychological trauma, and we specialise in the use of trauma-focused treatments in line with the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines (2005).

How to access our services

Referrals

A referral is required for adults living in Lothian who are aged 18 years or over.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

If you would like to be seen at the Rivers Centre for the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) please ask your GP to refer you directly to the Rivers Centre.

Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD)

For the treatment of Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD) please ask your GP to refer you to your local mental health team, who will be able access clinical services at the Rivers Centre if appropriate.

A referral is also required for children and young people under the age of 18 years.

Confidentiality

Our clinical work is confidential, but we will ask your consent to liaise with your GP and other professionals involved in your care.

We may involve partners or family members in therapy, if you feel comfortable with this.
