This information covers the Christmas and New Year holidays.
Dentists
Dentists will be closed on Wednesday 25 December, Thursday 26 December, Wednesday 1 January and Thursday 2 January.
If you need emergency care over the holidays please call NHS24 on 111.
Some examples of dental emergencies include trauma to the teeth, uncontrolled dental pain, uncontrolled bleeding from the mouth and swelling inside the mouth.
GPs
Please pick up your prescriptions in good time.
GPs will be closed on Wednesday 25 December, Thursday 26 December, Wednesday 1 January and Thursday 2 January.
The GP out-of-hours service will be providing urgent care when GP practices are closed.
If you need urgent medical advice which can’t wait until your GP practice is open, or you have a sudden onset or worsening of condition, call NHS 24 on 111.

Local pharmacists can help with some minor illnesses including cold sores, indigestion, constipation, impetigo, urinary infections, aches and pains, eczema, insect bites, thrush and sore throats.
Opticians

This may not be reflective of holiday arrangements, so please call your opticians if you’re unsure.
Optician teams can provide help and advice quickly for urgent eye conditions such as a sudden loss of vision, pain or something in your eye that’s obstructing your vision. An optometrist can also help with many routine conditions including difficulties with vision, eye infections, dry eyes, sore eyes, watery eyes or allergies.
Minor Injury Units (MIU)
If you have an injury that needs urgent or immediate attention, you should call NHS 24 on 111 to make an appointment with an expert in one of our MIUs.
Please note that if you arrive without arranging an appointment via 111 you may be asked to come back later.
Our expert MIU teams can treat strains, sprains, suspected broken bones, wounds, burns and more.
Emergency Department (A&E)
Always dial 999 or attend your nearest Emergency Department (A&E) in a critical emergency.
Some examples of why you should attend A&E include: severe bleeding that can’t be stopped, chest pain that won’t subside, if you think you’re having a stroke, severe breathing difficulties or severe injury.
Mental Health
If you, or someone you know, needs urgent mental health support over the holidays phone NHS 24 on 111 anytime day or night.
