The Emergency Department at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and is the busiest emergency department in Scotland, seeing on average 300 patients daily.
We do not look after children under the age of 16 years. They should go directly to the Royal Hospital For Children and Young People.
On arrival in the Emergency Department you will be directed to the appropriate area using a triage system, whereby you will be assessed by a member of staff and priority given to urgent cases.
