This nationwide service is available at community pharmacies which dispense NHS prescriptions. It replaces the previous minor ailments service.
Your pharmacist can advise you about conditions such as:
Athlete’s foot
Backache
Blocked or runny nose
Pain
Period pain
Some skin conditions such as cellulitis or insect bites
Many pharmacists offer confidential consultations and, if appropriate, can prescribe medicine for impetigo, shingles, skin infections and urinary infections.
Who can use Pharmacy First Scotland
This service is currently available to anyone who is:
- Registered with a Scottish GP
- Not registered with a Scottish GP but is normally permanently resident in Scotland (more than three months)
- Asylum seekers, homeless people, travellers’ communities, residents of care homes and other care settings
