Why do I need to bring my medicines with me?
It’s important we have a complete record of what is being taken so the right medicine can be given at the right time. Bringing your medicines with you will help us to keep your medicines right during your hospital stay.
Making sure that we know what medicines you are taking is really important so we can make sure that any new medicines work with your current medicines, which will help when planning for you to return home.
What will happen to my medicines during my hospital stay?
Your medicine will stay with you throughout your hospital stay and it will be treated as your property while in hospital.
How will this reduce waste?
We can continue to use the medicines that you are familiar with and use regularly during your hospital stay. This will reduce any delay in supplying your medicines and also reduces additional costs on the NHS and extra medication waste.
After you have gone home from hospital, you can continue to get your medicines from your GP and community pharmacy as you usually would. If there are changes to your medicines and you are starting on new ones or your dose changes, we will make sure we supply this and have it ready in anticipation for you to be discharged safely back home.
Don’t forget to let the teams know during any hospital admission if you have more medicines at home, so we can speed things up and make sure we help our NHS in reducing waste and delays.
