Important Notice about patient returned sharps
We are aware of the current difficulties being experienced by some patients when trying to dispose of their sharps, and of the impact that this is having.
A locally negotiated service has been in place with community pharmacy to enable patients to return their sharps to pharmacies for safe disposal. Unfortunately, a significant number of pharmacy contractors have now withdrawn from providing this service.
We are currently working with colleagues across Lothian to better understand the need, assess various options and agree how best to provide this service to patients. An important aspect of this work will be to ensure adequate coverage in all areas.
