NHS Lothian Neuroprogressive and Dementia Network (NDN)

The Neuroprogressive and Dementia Network (NDN) Research Team in Scotland brings together researchers, clinicians, and other experts. We work to improve how neurodegenerative conditions, are understood, diagnosed, and treated. Our team supports clinical trials that aim to develop new and effective treatments for people living with these conditions. We also study how these diseases develop, to increase knowledge and improve care in the future.
The NDN Research Team works with many different people, including those living with dementia, their family and caregivers, and healthcare professionals. This helps make sure our research is based on the real needs and experiences of people affected by neurodegenerative conditions. We also work closely with other research organisations in Scotland and around the world to share knowledge, skills, and resources.
Specifically, some of the research areas that the NDN team focuses on include:
- Developing and testing new treatments, including medicines and non-drug therapies, to improve quality of life for people with neurodegenerative conditions.
- Studying how neurodegenerative diseases affect the brain and body, to find new types of treatment.
- Improving how quickly and accurately neurodegenerative conditions are diagnosed, especially in the early stages.
- Exploring how genetics and other risk factors contribute to the development of neurodegenerative diseases.
- Creating better models of care for people with dementia and their families, and improving how care is delivered across health and social care services.
Overall, the NDN Research Team is focused on improving the lives of individuals with neurodegenerative conditions and advancing the understanding of these complex diseases.
