Consultant Physician – Medicine of the Elderly, NHS Lothian

Sarah Marrinan
MBBS, MRCP
I am a Consultant in Medicine of the Elderly with NHS Lothian, with a specialist interest in Parkinson’s disease and related movement disorders.
I studied medicine at Newcastle University and completed specialist training in Geriatric and General Medicine in the North East of England before taking up a consultant post in Edinburgh in 2015.
My MD research focused on gastrointestinal dysfunction in people with Parkinson’s disease, and specifically issues with delayed gastric emptying, and I have since been involved in a number of clinical trials, remaining active in Parkinson’s research.
Alongside my clinical and research work, I have a strong interest in postgraduate medical education. I am a faculty member and speaker for the Parkinson’s Academy Foundation Masterclass, and served as Training Programme Director for Geriatric Medicine in South East Scotland from 2019 to 2025.
