Bottle Feeding

Feeding your baby by breast and or bottle is one of the main ways that you and your baby can form a close and secure relationship. If you choose to bottle feed, you can offer your baby expressed breast milk or formula milk.

One of the advantages of bottle feeding is that Dad can also spend more time caring directly for his baby and this will allow him to take a central and important role in baby’s life. If you are choosing to breast feed most of the time but offer baby a bottle occasionally, it is important to know that introducing bottles whilst you are establishing breast feeding may affect how successful breast feeding is for you and baby. The following pages aim to give you some information on how to use and sterilise bottles and also how to make up formula feeds. If you would like some advice from staff about the different methods of feeding your baby please do not hesitate to ask.
