Sometimes pain travelling down the arm might be referred from sensitive soft tissues or joints in the neck. Sometimes, especially if the pain is accompanied by tingling or numbness, it might be caused by a nerve. Most people with this problem will improve, regardless of the treatment. More information below from the British Association of Spine Surgeons.
Exercises
As with most aches and pains, regular exercise for flexibility, strength and general fitness are recommended. Movement type exercises can be helpful in early stages to try and get things moving. Aerobic exercise, or anything that gets you out of breath, is also helpful, especially if you have nerve pain in your arm. As you feel able, strengthening of the head and neck can also be beneficial, especially if you have neck pain that has lasted a long time. Click the links for more information and examples.
