Western General Hospital: Medicine of the Elderly

Introduction: What We Do

We specialise in the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of older people with complex medical conditions.  These include specific problems such as falls, dementia, or osteoporosis.  In a range of in-patient and out-patient settings, we perform a Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) to assess and treat a variety of diseases, so we can help improve individual’s physical and mental health, independence and quality of life.

Our team includes doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapist and psychologists.  We work closely with Primary Care, Old Age Psychiatry and Social Services.

Many older patients are looked after by other specialists in the Western General Hospital we support them in a variety of ways.  Our hospital liaison service covers acute medicine, general surgery, urology, haematology, oncology and neurosurgery.
