Western General Hospital: Medicine of the Elderly

Introduction: What We Do

We specialise in the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of older people with complex medical conditions.  These include specific problems such as falls, dementia, or osteoporosis.  In a range of in-patient and out-patient settings, we perform a Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) to assess and treat a variety of diseases, so we can help improve individual’s physical and mental health, independence and quality of life.

Our team includes doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapist and psychologists.  We work closely with Primary Care, Old Age Psychiatry and Social Services.

It’s OK To ask

It can be daunting being in hospital and not knowing what is going on or what decision to make. We encourage patients and their families to always ask any questions they have.

BRAN can be a useful guide about what to ask if you are unsure of something.
