Getting there by Car

Unfortunately there is not much room for parking in the Hospital grounds, especially at peak times (8:45AM-3:00PM Monday to Friday). Please do not bring a car if you can avoid it. We would advise patients and visitors who live in the Edinburgh area to travel by bus if possible or arrange to be dropped off at the hospital by car. There are a few designated parking spaces at the front of the building for patients with disabled badges on their vehicles.

Car Parking Arrangements

Car parking charges and designated parking spaces have been introduced at the Western General Hospital for patients, visitors and staff. Car parks are run on a barrier controlled Pay on Foot facility for patients and visitors. Entrance to the car park will be gained by obtaining a ticket from the machine sited at the entrance this will raise the barrier. To exit the car park it will be necessary to pay the fee at the Pay Station, this will validate the ticket to allow the barrier to be raised. Sufficient time will be allowed from paying the fee and presenting the ticket to raise the barrier.

THE TARIFF FOR THE CAR PARK WILL INCREASE FROM £1.00 TO £7.00 AFTER 4 HOURS

There is no charge for drivers with a disability and free parking continues for certain groups of patients. Patients will be advised if they come into this category.
