Information for Patients and Carers
The Gastroenterology Team at NHS Lothian have put together this website of useful information and advice on a number of (gastro-related) conditions and treatments.
It is aimed at those who have been diagnosed by their GP or Gastroenterologist, who want to learn more about their condition.
There is also a section covering investigations that may be needed to confirm a diagnosis or to monitor/manage a condition in the longer term, explaining what to expect and why we do these tests.
What is Gastroenterology?
Gastroenterologists specialise in looking after people with a broad range of problems related to the digestive system, including the diagnosis and treatment of diseases involving the oesophagus, stomach, small intestine and large intestine (colon), liver, gallbladder, and pancreas.
If you experience any changes in your symptoms, you should contact your GP or Gastroenterologist for advice.
NHS Near Me
NHS Near Me is a new video consulting service which provides virtual consultations enabling you to attend your appointment by video link. As with any other appointment, you must first contact your local GP Practice who will arrange for an appointment to be booked in the normal manner.
