About the Lothian Diabetes Representative Group

History

The Lothian Diabetes Representative Group (LDRG) was started in 2002 and has been active in establishing links between people living and coping with diabetes and the wide variety of NHS healthcare professionals with whom they come in contact.  It is a group of people from all walks of life who have diabetes (type 1 and type 2) or family members with diabetes.

Activities

Currently, members of our group participate in meetings of the Lothian Diabetes Managed Clinical Network (MCN) which is a group of  healthcare professionals from hospital and the community involved in diabetes care. The LDRG has volunteers which represent the public in many other sub-groups of the MCN such as: Retinopathy screening programme steering group, diabetes pharmacy services group, Lothian dietitians network, patient and professional education, as well as working with Diabetes UK, the largest diabetes charity in the UK.

The LDRG actively contributes to public consultations from the Health Board and as such gives the patient population a voice in the plan and design the future of NHS Lothian.

How to get involved

Members of the LDRG are encouraged to participate as much or as little as they feel they can so as to accommodate individual life circumstances. If you are interested in attending a meeting of the LDRG or would like to be informed of upcoming events for people with diabetes and their carers contact LDRG at ldrg.cares@gmail.com
