Guidance from the Diabetes MCN Prescribing Subgroup on Tresiba insulin shortages

A Medicine Supply Alert Notice (MSAN) has been distributed for Tresiba (insulin degludec) FlexTouch 100units/ml solution for injection 3ml pre-filled pens (MSAN(2023)09.pdf). This is relevant from August 2023 to 2024.

Tresiba Penfill® (insulin degludec) 100units/ml solution for injection 3ml cartridges remain available and can support increased demand. Patients will require an alternative insulin pen device for administration. Further details are available in the MSAN. Patients have been issued prescriptions for cartridges, Novopens, needles and sharps bins. Further supplies can be obtained from their general practices.

Do not initiate new patients on Tresiba® FlexTouch® 100units/ml pens during this time.

U200 insulin (200units/ml) supply is unaffected.

Queries from patients currently prescribed Tresiba FlexTouch should be directed to their GP practice.
