What is the Lothian Care Academy?
The Lothian Care Academy was commissioned by the four Local Authorities in Lothian, Integration Boards and NHS Lothian.
The Lothian Care Academy is an ambitious programme which will deliver a high-quality training and education by working together with key stakeholders to create a consistent, safe, and best value training offer within the Health and Social Care sector serving Lothian which will attract, develop, and support staff through their career.
The Lothian Care Academy provides advice, support and opportunities for staff to develop their knowledge and understanding in their roles and will look to make it easier for staff to join the care sector and transition between roles in Health and Social Care.
Who is the Lothian Care Academy for?
The Lothian Care Academy is designed for all Healthcare Support Workers across integrated Health and Social Care.
This includes Care Homes and Care at Homes staff, including Local Authority and Independent Services, along with those who work in these areas as NHS Bands from 2-4.
Milestones
The project is being run in collaboration with staff, Local Authorities, IJB’s, NHS Lothian, Care Inspectorate, partnership, colleges and representatives from Care Homes and Care at Home providers. Some of the main milestones past and future are highlighted below:
Currently the 3 main areas of activity are
Education and Training – identifying, designing and facilitating training opportunities for staff, this includes providing a training directory to signpost and highlight training. A-Z Training Directory
Career Pathways – identifying and mapping the opportunities and possibilities of a career in care. Social Care Career Pathway in Lothian
Recruitment and Retention – including Step into Care course and mentoring opportunities. Additional Learning Opportunities
