NHS Lothian Audiology Department – Updates on Our Services

The Audiology department is open. All services are running, although at reduced capacity for face-to-face appointments.

Appointment times may be longer than usual. If you wish to speak to somebody about your appointment, please contact Health Records at 0131 536 1637 (10am-1pm and 2pm-4pm), or email audiology@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk


Hearing Aid Repairs

Please post your faulty hearing aid/s to us, or walk in and use our drop-box.
We are located at these 4 sites:

  • Edinburgh- Level 1 at Lauriston Building
  • West Lothian – OPD4 at St John’s Hospital
  • East Lothian – Reception at East Lothian Community Hospital
  • Midlothian – Reception at Midlothian Community Hospital

Please ensure that you:

  1. Secure your hearing aid/s inside an envelope
  2. Include your name
  3. Include a description of the problem 
  4. State if you would like to receive your hearing aid/s back via post, or if you would like to collect in person.

Hearing Aid Batteries/Tubes

Please check with your local library to see if they are open and if batteries are available for collection.
If not, please contact us via telephone or email. Leave your name and address and we will post batteries out to you. If you are unable to do this, you may also post your yellow battery book to the address on the back of your battery book.


Postal Hearing Aids

Due to the pandemic, you have the option of getting your new hearing aid/s posted to your home with instructions. If you prefer to be fitted with your hearing aids/s at a face to face appointment, please let us know.


Reassessment for Existing Hearing Aid Users

Your hearing is to be re-checked every 3 years. If you think you are due for a reassessment, please phone or email us.


NearMe 

NearMe (also known as Attend Anywhere) is a secure NHS video consulting service which is being used across NHS Scotland. To use this service, you must have received an appointment letter from NHS Lothian Adult Audiology department.
