I’ve had my Eye Removed. What about my Job?

Safety Glasses

If you have had your eye removed you should inform your employer of such.

Obviously the specific type of work that you do is important, therefore how the loss will affect you as an individual is difficult to predict.

Losing an eye can particularly affect jobs that involve operating vehicles and performing detailed or close work. Work is regarded as “close” when it is primarily visual and you need to be within three feet to perform it. At distances greater than three feet the loss of one eye is not too much of a deficiency.

It is worth stating that the majority of people carry on successful and fulfilling working lives with only one eye.

Of course it goes to say, you should take every precaution in protecting your remaining eye. In the work area safety glasses should be worn wherever appropriate. In fact they have a role to play in protecting both, your remaining eye, and your artificial one from damage or dirt.
