I’ve Heard I May be Able to See with my Artificial Eye. Is this True?

Close-Up of an Eye Gazing Upwards

At first, this question may seem odd, given the seemingly obvious answer, but misinformation and rumour can still prompt the asking.

As advanced as medical science may be, at this point in time there is still no artificial eye that can restore sight. Unlike other prosthetic appliances, artificial limbs for instance, which may enable patients to walk again or to be able to hold and grasp objects, an artificial eye cannot restore what was there before. The function of an artificial eye is cosmetic: it should provide an acceptable appearance for the person in their everyday life.

However it can be said that what an artificial eye does restore is confidence.
