Recovery Perspectives
Discussions about recovery and ways to support recovery took place at the Regional Eating Disorders Unit at St John’s Hospital and, with permission of the group of people involved, the diagrams below were produced for the purpose of this website. They represent different individuals’ persepctives about recovery and some advice that the group would wish to say to others in a similar situation to themselves, living with an eating disorder.

What can I do to support my recovery?
- Hold onto hope. Recovery is possible, no matter how hard.
- Remind yourself why you want it. Make a list of all the pros of changing.
- Make a commitment to yourself.
- Think positively and support others around you to think positively too.
- Accept support from others who believe in you such as friends, relatives, and/or professionals.
- Trust in those trying to help you. Sometimes change involves compromise.
- Communicate your needs to others.
- Have goals that are attainable, and work towards these one step at a time.
- Forgive yourself and move forward when things don’t go as planned.
