The Lothian Bronchiectasis service is located in the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and is the largest bronchiectasis service in Scotland (bronchiectasis patients are also assessed and managed at the Western General Hospital and at St John’s Hospital.
Aims of the Service
- Establish a definitive diagnosis of bronchiectasis – or otherwise exclude bronchiectasis
- Identify any underlying cause for bronchiectais (if any – 50% of patients will have no cause found for their bronchiectasis)
- Establish a treatment plan which is particular to your circumstances – and communicate that both to the patient and the GP
- Monitor patients fulfilling the criteria for secondary care monitoring at regular inervals to assess whether there are changes which require a change in the treatment plan
- Carry out research into new and improved treatments. This includes research at a local, national and international level.
