Although results may be available more quickly, in general please allow a 10-14 day period for the results of your x-ray or scan to be ready for the clinical team who requested the test. If you are worried that there has been a delay in you getting the result, please contact the team who made the request.
In some cases (e.g. some ultrasounds) your radiologist or sonographer may be able to tell you the results immediately, however often these scans need to be interpreted in the context of changes from older scans and other clinical tests and results.
In the case of biopsies, depending on the specific laboratory tests required these results may take longer to be ready. Your case may also be discussed in a specialist multi-disciplinary meeting after this.
Results will be available for the team looking after you who requested the test. As these results are part of your medical records, under the Data Protection Act they cannot be released to you without going through our legal team – more information is available at org.nhslothian.scot/FOI
