Sexual Health and Relationships guidelines for supporting People with Learning Disabilities
Making Choices Keeping Safe (MCKS): Guidelines for those caring for people with learning disabilities around relationships and sexual health.
View the latest Making Choices Keeping Safe guidelines launched in May 2016. These can be printed for use and can be shared widely with colleagues and peers.
- MCKS has been developed in response to the needs of people with learning disabilities and provides professionals with best practice guidance around discussing sexual health and relationships. It has been written in wide consultation with, and with input from, people with learning disabilities, their families and carers.
- The guidance aims to ensure that young people and adults with learning disabilities have access to timely, appropriate support, advice and information as required.
- It provides staff with an informative and supportive framework which clearly illustrates staff members’ roles and responsibilities and how to respond in more specific areas of relationships and sexual health work.
