The aim of the service is to help acute services deliver care to drug users who are at high risk of harm – including drug related death.
A range of interventions may be available, including:
- initiation of Opioid Substitution Therapy in carefully selected patients
- advice on management of withdrawal in the hospital setting
- liaison with community Substance use Teams
- facilitation of early follow-up
- naloxone training and take-home kits for patients
- harm reduction advice.
