Drug Liaison Service

The aim of the service is to help acute services deliver care to people who use or inject drugs, who are at high risk of harm – including drug related death.

A range of interventions may be available, including:

  • Initiation of Opioid Substitution Therapy / Medication Assisted Treatment in carefully selected patients
  • Advice on management of withdrawal in the hospital setting
  • For some patients who take a patient directed discharge we can provide or refer to appropriate assertive outreach services
  • Liaison with community substance use teams
  • Facilitation of early follow-up
  • Naloxone training and take-home kits for patients
  • Harm reduction advice.
