The department has three in-patient wards, a Programme Investigations Unit, operating theatres, diagnostic services, outpatient clinics and in-patient and out-patient neurophysiology services.

Neurology outpatients are also seen at St John’s Hospital in Livingston and Roodlands Hospital in Haddington, East Lothian. The Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic is a charitable University of Edinburgh clinical research facility which delivers research and trials for people with neurodegenerative diseases, as well as hosting NHS Lothian specialist clinic for these conditions.

The service for children is provided in the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh.
