IMPORTANT: Vital Signs and Deteriorating Resident education is only available for City of Edinburgh Care Homes at this point in time. Participants must be working at Team Lead or senior care worker level and have completed SVQ Level 3
The Aim of the course is :
Vital Signs -to enable the learner to acquire theoretical knowledge and practical skills to competently and safely measure and record vital signs.
Deteriorating Resident – To support staff to recognise and respond appropriately to adverse changes in a resident’s condition
Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of the session participants will:

- Describe the requirements needed for patient consent
- Describe and demonstrate how to obtain accurate vital signs measurements
- Demonstrate how to effectively document, score and escalate a NEWS Chart total
- Be competent to escalate concerns using SBAR
- Awareness of when to assess residents and the importance of recognising soft signs
- Acquire knowledge of performing A-E assessment, inc. related documentation
Structure of Education Session:
- Sessions are delivered by NHS Lothian Clinical Education Team
- Face to Face Practical learning and education session
- Full Day Session 08.45 – 16.00
