Dementia Awareness Week (DAW) – East and West Lothian

Monday 2nd-Sunday 8th June
News from Alzheimer Scotland

Monday marked the start of Dementia Awareness Week 2025 (Monday 2nd – Sunday 8th June)!

This year’s theme is the power of friendship to support people with dementia.

As the condition progresses, emotional connections and social interactions remain deeply significant.

Friendship provides comfort, reassurance, and a sense of belonging, helping to combat feelings of isolation and loneliness, and can empower and support people with dementia to live well for as long as possible.

We can all make sure nobody faces dementia alone.

To celebrate this, Alzheimer Scotland, and partner organisations across Mid and East Lothian, including both Health & Social Care Partnerships, Dementia Friendly East Lothian, Carers of East Lothian, VOCAL, and the British Red Cross invite you to:

“Bring a Friend, Be a Friend”

“Bring A Friend, Be a Friend”

Activities for Dementia Week

Unless indicated otherwise, the activities listed on the downloadable timetables for Mid and East Lothian (below) will welcome people with dementia, their families, and friends to come together to support one another and celebrate the power of friendship.

You do not have to have attended a group or activity previously to join us.

One event that we (Alzheimer Scotland and partners) couldn’t quite squeeze into Dementia Awareness Week will take place on Tuesday 17th June2.00-4.00pm: in partnership with Tranent Bowling Club, we invite to “Try Bowls”!

This is an opportunity to try your hand at lawn bowling. Refreshments and equipment will be provided. Full details can be found below. If you live in Midlothian, you are very welcome to attend too!
