Course Aim
To support aspiring senior carers or experienced practitioners in their leadership journey through the introduction of key leadership skills
Course Objectives
1. To expand and consolidate participants understanding of the roles of a leader and how it differs from a manager
2. To provide insight into leadership styles and leadership in practice
3. To share participants experiences, ambitions and goals
4. To provide a range of tools and skills to manage wellbeing and resilience
5. To enable participants to communicate effectively with others
6. To introduce the theory of a growth mindset
Delivery and Commitment:
- First session is a full day face to face workshop
- Six online up webinars (2 hours each month)
- The course will last 5 months and is expected to require 25 hours of study (including the one-day ‘ introduction’ to leadership workshop)
- Time away from the current workplace should be granted to facilitate any in-person workshops or online tutorials.
Requirements & Booking Information
Applicants must:
- Hold a SCQF7 qualification (or equivalent) relevant to the post (i.e. SVQ3 In Social Services and Healthcare)
- Have at least two years service
- Be working towards, or currently in the role of senior social care worker (or equivalent e.g. senior practitioner)
- Have a conversation with their manager about their interest in developing their leadership role. A statement of support will be requested from manager as part of the booking process

The online form should then be completed by the staff member looking to attend the course, and include :
- A short statement from the candidate of no more than 300 words about why they would like to attend this course. This might include an example of why they want to progress into a leadership role, or personal qualities that make them a good candidate for this course
We will then be in touch with the appropriate manager as noted on the form to obtain a short statement of support. This will be no more than 200 words about why the candidate should attend this course. This may include examples in action at work or a summary of them expressing an interest in leadership from a 1:1 conversation
